THE WORST BAND I HAVE EVER SEEN or MUSICAL TERRORISM….

In the past many weeks as I have returned to Texas, I have been blessed to have worked with and recently have mixed a great many fantastic bands from Texas that have included the likes of:

BETTYSOO

MINGO FISHTRAP (Lon Bronson…..Please take note of Mingo Fishtrap……Not a Music Stand or a Chart anywhere on the stage)…….

(Be sure to check out the song “Just What I needed”…A “Cars” Cover like no other at Jesse’s Myspace Link above……)

These Acts above were a Joy to hear and work with……..more reasons why Texas has the greatest Music Scene on Earth…….

BUT…….Last night, Saturday, October 23rd, I witnessed, and had to Mix, the WORST band I have ever seen…….Possibly the worst in America……Possibly the worst band on the Earth……..Now Normally, I would not “out” a band in such a manner, but as a public service to music lovers everywhere, and because of the sheer “over-the-top” dribble that was their performance, I will NOT protect the name of the guilty act this time…….

The band was Called STRAWBERRY JAM…….There are really not words to fully describe how bad they were……..fluxuating tempos…..wrong notes……wrong notes in the wrong key……various band members on various instruments all playing the same song in different keys……..coming out of fills and changes not together and not being able to find the “one”……bad singing (screaming)……no vocal harmonies……..ridiculous arrangements of covers and originals that made no sense……all while jumping around like they were “The Who” in 1975, while being really into what they thought was a stellar performance on their part and just being really into the moment……..it was complete dribble………so much so I am not even sure what musical genre you would have classified their music as……..and then as if all this was not enough……then came what I can only describe as the Les Paul Guitar Trumpet patch noise solo……..also at times the keyboard player would often just stop playing his parts in the various songs to turn around and take huge gulps of wine and then Shiner beer until he was wet noodle drunk before the first set was even half over………..their music was not about musical integrity, or doing justice to the songs or music, or a performance……it was utter crap…….and I kept wondering who would book such an act to play their venue let alone pay them to play (actually i know who this person is, and after seeing the look on his face, he probably deserves a medal or something for choosing to drink heavily and avoid serious questions from anyone while sticking it out, rather than just making a quick exit out the door)……..oh and there was also the violin player that just seemed like he too was asking himself what he was doing there while mostly doubling the keyboard parts because he had nothing else to do really……..

And I had to try to Mix all this chaos…….It was like musical terrorists had taken me hostage, Tied me up and force fed me tequila, mushrooms and acid, and made me chew tin foil in lew of being water boarded, while having to listen to their noise…..it was pure torture…….if all the water in all the oceans all over our planet, were turd polish, their would not have been enough turd polish, to have fixed their toxic noise………more times than I can count, I had to restrain myself from walking out onto stage like John Belushi in the “Animal House” movie and grabbing the instrument out of the hands of the nearest band member and smashing it to dust right in front of them (only without the apology at the end of me doing so)……then out of the blue, some fool in the audience, came up to be to tell me the band sounded great, and I almost punched him…….then he started in telling me about how great the band was and that they were all the rage in the College Station, Texas Frat Party Scene (which obviously made some sort of Aggie sense I would imagine)……then this guy actually handed me a flyer and proceeded to tell me that the band had their own iPhone and Android App and streaming online website radio station where you can listen to the 24 hours a day…….so of course, after the gig, and because I was almost certain that I had either been trippin and or dreamed some sort of nightmare, I pulled it up on my iphone……well……I can only say this from what I heard online…..the music online is either NOT this bands recordings or they are pure Protools geniuses (after 137 takes for each song or tons of editing and having other musicians play their parts)…..because there is NO WAY that the music online is the same horrible band I saw live……

So, be forewarned people………if you have the misfortune to run across this band STRAWBERRY JAM live, demand your door cover or ticket price back…….call the music police, or even call the military or CIA and tell them you have a new torture technique for them to try on the bad guys that is assured to work……… Honestly it will take me until next week to fully recover…….MUSICAL TERRORISM……..
